Lenoir will launch its comprehensive-plan process with neighborhood workshops on June 25 and a drop-in community open house on June 26, Planning Director Hannah Williams told the City Council on June 18.
"We are doing our comprehensive plan kickoff meetings next week on June 25th and 26th," Williams said, noting staff sessions and three public meetings open to residents. The city listed a Whitel neighborhood workshop at Whitel Elementary School (1425 Berkeley Street) and a West End workshop at Mount Pilgrim Holiness Baptist Church; a community open house will be held at the Blue Ridge Energy district office community meeting room.
Mayor Joe Gibbons appears in a promotional video the city played at the meeting and invited residents to take part online as well as in person. "The comprehensive plan is a guide for the city of Lenoir for the next 20 to 25 years," Gibbons said in the video, urging people to attend the June meetings and complete surveys so staff can build a plan that reflects community input.
City staff described the June 25 neighborhood workshops as evening events and the June 26 session as a drop-in open house. Officials said the sessions will focus on future land use and broader community engagement across Lenoir's neighborhoods.
The sessions are the first public engagement steps in assembling the plan; city staff will summarize public input as the process moves forward and report back to the council at later meetings.
