Normandy Park Parks Commission elects leadership, approves meeting business

The Normandy Park Parks Commission convened Jan. 21 at City Hall, elected its chair and vice chair for 2026 and approved routine business including the Dec. 17 minutes and the meeting agenda.
The commission handled administrative items first. A motion to excuse Commissioner John Benschay, who was out of town, was moved and seconded and approved by voice vote. Commissioners then approved the meeting agenda and the December minutes as corrected for several spelling and title errors noted during roll call and review.
Jenny Love, a commissioner, reported on outreach to the city council about the Harvest To Park parking-lot question and said she had provided public comment to explain the commission’s unanimous recommendation; Love said the council adopted the recommendation by a 4–3 vote. Commissioner reports also included a recap of a recent Family Foresters volunteer event where volunteers planted native shrubs and trees.
On governance, nominations produced clear results: Commissioner Jenny Love nominated Ron Evers for chair; the nominee accepted and the commission confirmed the position by voice vote. Matt Deller was nominated for vice chair and accepted; that nomination also carried by voice vote.
The meeting closed after updates and departmental reports on trails, tree-canopy mapping and upcoming programs. The commission adjourned following a final voice vote.
