“We do have a quote from a company that is willing to take on the safety and hopefully do it well and with the proper safety equipment, but it's $8,000,” staff said.
Staff described the site as difficult to reach (under the bridge, significant drop) and said the work covers multiple sides of the bridge. Councilors asked whether the city should adopt a schedule for future cleanups (one member suggested assessing the bridge every 5 years; others recommended every 2–3 years based on budget and recurrence).
Council raised prevention measures: temporary fencing or ropes to impede access, security cameras, cataloging taggers to track repeat artists, and reliance on special‑event permits for food vendors rather than allowing outside grills. Staff replied that the proposed contract would address current safety concerns and that future funding could be limited if graffiti recurs frequently.
There was no formal vote at the workshop; staff will place the contract for approval on a future council meeting agenda.
