District administrators told the board June 9 that moving to 6–12 campuses requires new leadership roles focused on program specialization, student wellness and family engagement.
Presenters described the campus principal as responsible for communications, vision and program-building across a 6–12 campus. Assistant-principal roles will transition into more specialized positions such as a dean of work-and-life readiness (focused on academics and program development) and a dean of community health (focused on behavior, wellness and safety). A separate student, family and alumni life coordinator will focus on engagement and belonging.
The leaders said specialization will allow counselors and advisers to work with smaller cohorts (target caseloads were discussed informally) and enable deeper college-and-career advising. Board members expressed support and asked about staff transitions; administrators said current employees would remain employed and have opportunities to pursue new roles. The board moved, seconded and approved the job descriptions.
Officials said full implementation will coincide with the opening of unified 6–12 campuses in coming years; the district will begin conversations with current principals and assistant principals about fits and options for the 2027–28 transition period.
