At its June 8 meeting, the Weston Public Works & Utilities Committee approved multiple procurement and consent items, including topsoil screening, street repaving, minutes approval and other routine actions.
The committee approved the May 11 public works committee minutes and acknowledged the May 2026 water and sewer permits. For topsoil screening (annual work to reclaim screened topsoil for reuse), staff presented two bids and recommended awarding the work to PGA, Inc., the low bidder at $5.50 per cubic yard for an estimated 7,000 cubic yards (estimated project total $38,500). Staff emphasized that screening and reusing existing topsoil saves the village significant capital costs compared with buying new topsoil.
The committee also reviewed two quotes for repaving Shirley Avenue; RC Pavers submitted the low quote of $48,500 for the asphalt overlay, under the preliminary budget estimate. Committee members reported no quality concerns with RC Pavers’ past work and voted to award the Shirley Avenue paving contract to RC Pavers.
Other routine items passed by voice vote included approval of the Bladel Avenue special assessment hearing outcome and acknowledgment of the May water and sewer reports. Several construction updates were presented in the staff CIP report, and the committee discussed coordination of contractors, line painting (water‑based paint used), and project detours for the currently closed Gelnick and Alderson intersection.
