Water and Wastewater board elects officers, approves generator contract and abates small fee; continues one abatement

The Board of Water and Wastewater Commissioners met June 2 and elected new officers, approved a contract for a replacement generator and handled multiple customer abatement requests.

At the start of the meeting commissioners nominated Bob Young for chair and Norin for vice chair; nominations were seconded and the slate was approved by voice vote. The board discussed the clerk role; staff member Tracy confirmed she keeps minutes and will continue in that capacity for routine minutes.

On abatements the board approved the removal of a $25 late fee for an account at 990 Queen Anne Road after a motion and roll-call vote. By contrast the board voted to continue consideration of a larger abatement request for a property on Harold Street after commissioners asked staff to obtain more documentation, including whether the customer has filed an insurance claim and what property-management steps were taken. Staff (Tracy) will send the customer a request for insurance and property-maintenance information before the item returns to the board.

The board awarded a contract to FM Generator Company for $45,500 to replace a generator damaged during a recent storm. Staff reported three bids were received and recommended the low bidder; the contract passed on a roll-call vote.

Next steps: staff will return with the requested documentation on the Harold Street claim and with draft abatement-form revisions requested by the board. The board set a follow-up debrief meeting for June 16.
