Town selects separate planning/DPW engineering firms and schedules Spectrum franchise hearing

At the June 9 workshop, Irondequoit supervisors said the town will contract with two engineering firms to provide planning and zoning engineering services, assigning one firm principally to the building department and another to the Department of Public Works.
Supervisor Kurt Con said the board interviewed three firms and intends to select MRB to support building‑department needs and Paso to support DPW operations. "We're going to have a firm that's going to be with the building department and then we're going to have a firm that's going to be with the DPW department," he said, adding the arrangement lets each firm focus on its area of expertise while still allowing coordination across departments.
Board members asked about contract length; staff described the engagements as indefinite (no fixed end date was specified at the workshop).
Separately, the board introduced a resolution to call a public hearing on July 21 for renewal of the town’s cable franchise agreement with Spectrum Northeast LLC, locally known as Charter Communications. Diana said Spectrum will attend the July meeting to present the franchise renewal and that typical franchise terms (including a 15‑year term and the percentage payments towns receive) are largely standardized.
Both actions were on the workshop agenda for formal authorization or scheduling at upcoming meetings.
