Jesse Jones asks Morgan County plan commission to rezone .88-acre parcel on Beach Grove Road

Jesse Jones told the Morgan County Plan Commission on July 15 that he seeks to rezone a parcel at 6435 Beach Grove Road in Clay Township from agricultural (A) to residential R2 so he can access an equity loan and build a detached garage. "Jesse Jones, 6435 Beach Grove Road, Martinsville, Indiana, 46151," he said when asked to state his name and address.

The request, filed as Petition Z2602 and described to the commission as about 0.88 acres, was presented during a public hearing. Jones said the parcel was split from his grandmother’s property and contains a second house; its size does not meet the agricultural minimums for certain permits he wants to pursue. After hearing from the applicant and learning no one else had signed up to speak for or against the rezoning, the commission closed the public portion.

A commissioner moved to forward a favorable recommendation to the county commissioners; the motion was seconded and approved by voice vote. The commission told Jones he must appear before the county commissioners at their next meeting, scheduled for the 15th, for the final rezoning decision.

The plan commission’s action is a recommendation only; any change in zoning will occur if and when the county commissioners take final action. The commission did not identify any conditions on the recommendation during its motion.
