At the May 11 meeting the council opened a public hearing on proposed Tax Abatement Guidelines prepared under Chapter 312 of the Texas Tax Code. William Myers, Executive Director of BEDCO, said the guidelines are intended to encourage retention and expansion of qualifying businesses and to provide a transparent, consistent framework for evaluating incentive requests; the policy must be renewed every two years. With no public comment, council adopted the guidelines by unanimous vote.
Later in the meeting Myers said BEDCO recommended nominating two eligible rural census tracts in Bonham for the State of Texas Opportunity 2.0 designation, noting both tracts qualified under statutory requirements and were affected by the January 2026 state-declared winter weather disaster. The council adopted a resolution supporting BEDCO’s nomination of the two tracts by unanimous vote.
