The Madison Parish Police Jury voted unanimously on May 11, 2026, to adopt its 2026 millage rates, approving Resolution 2026-7 that sets property tax levies for the 2026 tax roll.
The resolution was moved by Johnny Hughes and seconded by Dave Wilson before the full text was read. The millages approved include: General Fund — Inside 1.63 mills and Outside 3.27 mills; Library 3.56 mills and Library (2002) 1.94 mills; Health Unit 1.18 mills and Health Unit (2002) 1.50 mills; Courthouse & Jail 2.71 mills and Courthouse & Jail (2007) 7.00 mills; Garbage Collection 9.03 mills; Roads, Bridges, Drainage 17.10 mills; Madison Voluntary Council on Aging 1.00 mill; Parish of Madison Public Transportation 1.00 mill; and Fire 4.00 mills.
The roll call on adoption recorded yeas from Jerry Hicks, Stanley Ogden, Dave Wilson, Johnny Hughes and Jane Sanders; there were no nays or abstentions. The resolution instructs parish officials to spread the approved taxes on the 2026 assessment roll and to collect them according to law.
Adoption of the millage schedule is the formal step that sets property tax levies for the coming year and directs collection; the resolution text states the taxes will become a permanent lien and be enforceable as provided by law.
