The Panama City Planning Board on June 8 voted unanimously to recommend approval of a petition to vacate a 10-foot-wide, platted alley running north of E6 Street and south of E7 Street adjacent to 519 E6 Street.
Staff introduced Case No. ending in 1326 and told the board the alley contains no city water, sewer or drainage infrastructure and does not connect through to other parcels. The applicant was listed as Jimmy Branch; Anna Branch, who was sworn to speak, told the board the family has owned the entire block for more than 30 years and said vacation would allow them to potentially sell or activate commercial space on the block. She stated the alley is about "10 ft wide" and spans the length of the block.
Board members asked for clearer exhibit detail about the exact parcels affected; staff agreed to provide a property exhibit that outlines each affected parcel in the application file. The board also acknowledged receipt of a letter from a resident (Miss Langston) raising concerns; staff said the alley’s lack of infrastructure and non–through-street status addressed several of those concerns.
A motion to approve the alley vacation was made, seconded and carried 4-0. Staff said the item will appear before the City Commission at the July 14 meeting.
