County signs contract with Legacy Contracting for 7 Mile Bridge project

Public Works staff told the Walla Walla County Board of Commissioners on May 11 that a contract with Legacy Contracting Inc. is ready for execution for the 7 Mile Bridge project and that WSDOT crews began initial removal work the same day.
Public Works Director Dan Mack said the contractor and surety paperwork were in order and that a pre-construction meeting had already occurred. "Today is the first day that WSDOT is out there getting ready to remove the bridge," he said; staff reported WSDOT will have crews in place next Monday and the county expects the contractor to be on site in early June. The board voted to execute the contract with Legacy Contracting Inc. (voice vote, 3-0).
Staff also said the county had requested funding and had budgeted conservatively; bids came in lower than the funding request so the project remains fully funded. Public Works provided additional updates about upcoming Wallula Bridge and Fishhook Park work and reported a recent $240,000 supplemental award for the Fishhook project from the MPO.
The action authorizes contract execution; contractor mobilization and WSDOT removal activities will determine the actual construction schedule.
