County adopts simplified rate structure for emergency fire camps to speed response contracting

Kittitas County commissioners approved a resolution to adopt a simplified rate structure for fire camps and emergency services to make contracting quicker when responders mobilize for wildfires or other urgent incidents.
Katie Porterfield, event center director, told the board the rates were designed for immediate, unplanned use and would simplify contracting by bundling areas and facilities. "They require immediate and unplanned use," Porterfield said, "so it's a lot more easier for them to select...this area, this area, this area." She noted the camping costs are included and the structure accounts for extra staffing and facility services across large grounds.
The board moved and adopted Resolution 2026-093 to implement the emergency-services and fire-camp rates. Porterfield said staff built the structure on top of current rates to provide a simpler contracting process for rapid deployments. The resolution passed and staff will implement the new schedule for emergency bookings.
