Superintendent Dr. McCall delivered brief farewell remarks at the board's June 8 meeting, thanking staff, families and the board for the opportunity to lead Valparaiso Community Schools and saying he was proud of the district's accomplishments.
Board members used the meeting to update the public on an active superintendent search. Trustees said the hiring process included multiple rounds of interviews and that community input was used to shape candidate priorities. The board said contract language has been reviewed by finance staff and said a posted contract and a public comment session are planned before any final action. One board member said a public comment session on the contract is scheduled for June 22 at 5:00 p.m.
Several board members and community representatives offered brief tributes to Dr. McCall, thanking him for leadership during recent years, citing his responsiveness to staff and families, and wishing him well. Teacher and union leaders also thanked him for working with bargaining units and the community on policy matters.
No final hiring decision was made at the meeting. The board said it expects to continue moving through contract negotiations, public posting, and an additional community comment opportunity before any vote.
