The Joplin City Council on May 4 formally recognized Lynn Onstock, the city's public information officer, on the occasion of her retirement after more than 23 years of service.
Mayor and council members read a resolution recounting Onstock's work leading communications through major events including the 2011 tornado and credited her with building the city's outreach and resident-facing publications. Onstock accepted the recognition and thanked staff, council and her family: "It's been a wonderful honor to work for the city," she said.
Several council members offered personal remarks. The mayor pro tem called Onstock's service "absolutely wonderful" and council members praised her mentorship, institutional knowledge and steady presence; the council approved Resolution 2026-009 by voice vote (8 in favor).
