During the June 8 public-comment period two speakers urged the Longview School Board to address alleged public-records withholding and transparency failures.
Scott B., who said he had filed a document with the U.S. Department of Education Office for Civil Rights, said the district had withheld requested public records, heavily redacted released documents, hidden relevant records among unrelated material, and improperly extended production deadlines. He urged the board to remove any individuals implicated in a cover-up and to allow outside investigation, citing RCW 26.44.030 as part of his allegation about mandatory-reporting duties.
Online commenter Sean Turpin said he had provided board members written notice on public-records compliance concerns, described missed statutory deadlines and pending requests, and criticized a pattern in which the board consults with lawyers when problems surface rather than exercising oversight to prevent them. He said he and others had asked board members to resign and that the public has had multiple unmet requests for accountability.
The board did not offer an on-the-record rebuttal during the public-comment period. Later in the meeting the board voted on personnel and policy items and recessed into an executive session to review a public employee’s performance.
