Lucas County honors outgoing poet laureate Johnny McIntyre

The Lucas County Board of County Commissioners on May 19 presented a proclamation honoring Johnny McIntyre for her service as the county's poet laureate from 2022 through 2025.
The proclamation, introduced by Administrator Ford and moved by President Zabekhi, recognized McIntyre's outreach and programming across the county and region. A county presenter noted McIntyre participated in more than 300 events during her four-year term — a figure the presenter described in the meeting as roughly "one every four days." Commissioner Gerken and other commissioners praised the county's tradition of supporting the arts, which the board traces back to 2007.
Johnny McIntyre thanked the commissioners for support and described the county's literary arts as inclusive and community-building. "I am not going anywhere," McIntyre said, adding that she will continue —Uncloistered' programming and work with the Arts Commission on upcoming events, including the October Art Loop and Ohio Poetry Day in Toledo.
The board then moved and approved a formal proclamation recognizing McIntyre's term. The proclamation commemorates McIntyre's public programming and the county's continued commitment to arts and cultural events.
The meeting continued with other agenda items, including appointments and budget actions; the board adjourned until 2:00 p.m.
