Longview board adopts six-year strategic plan shaped by thousands of participants

The Longview School Board unanimously adopted a six-year strategic plan on June 8 that the acting superintendent said was developed with extensive community participation and will guide district priorities for 2026–2032.

The acting superintendent summarized the plan’s core elements: a student-centered promise (“every student, every day, learning today, leading tomorrow”), a profile of a graduate, four goal areas with performance targets, and district foundations to guide implementation. He said about 2,575 stakeholders contributed to development and that 2,659 participated in the subsequent voting process; those figures were spoken during the presentation.

Board members who commented praised the process and its level of engagement. “I’ve never seen this level of engagement in my tenure on the board,” one member said, while others said the plan’s student-centered focus and community ownership should make implementation more successful.

The board voted to adopt the plan for the six-year period covering the 2026–27 through 2031–32 school years. The motion carried by voice vote with all members present signaling approval.

Other business and votes At the same meeting the board also approved revisions to Policy 21108 (Learning Assistance Program), removing pandemic-specific language and updating cross-references; that policy revision passed by voice vote. The board approved a consent agenda earlier in the meeting that included the May 26 minutes, the personnel report, and warrants.

What remains unclear The acting superintendent and board did not present a detailed funding breakdown or a timeline of specific implementation tasks at the meeting; a high-level budget update and a more detailed budget presentation were scheduled for the June 22 board meeting.
