Wappinger announces state aid increases and new digital speed signs to monitor traffic

Supervisor Cavini announced that state lawmakers secured additional aid for the Town of Wappinger in the current state budget and highlighted new traffic monitoring equipment being installed across town.
The supervisor said the town will receive an additional $28,472.17 in CHIPS funding, a total of $266,900 in Aid and Incentives to Municipalities (AIM) funding and $18,671 in temporary municipal assistance. He credited outreach to the town’s state representatives for the increases and said the additional revenue will help limit pressure on the local tax rate and fund projects.
Cavini also said the town has begun installing permanent digital speed signs that collect real‑time traffic counts and speeds. He thanked highway staff Kevin Bohannan and Sean Kelly for installing several signs rapidly and said more signs will be brought online in the coming weeks; the data will be shared with local law enforcement and used in development planning. The supervisor said the signs should aid enforcement and provide consistent traffic counts across town.
Separately he reported progress on a highway garage wash bay (concrete poured, steel erected and plumbing underway) and noted recent community events including a well‑attended parks tea and an upcoming Rufathon event that will benefit the Sparrow’s Nest.
