Committee seeks public workshop after bus-study shows potential savings from modest start-time shifts

"Some districts reported savings as much as a half million dollars," Director Gonzalez said while cautioning that any change would require community engagement because even a 15-minute shift can affect working parents’ schedules. Committee members raised concerns about child-care impacts, afterschool programs and nonpublic-school transportation agreements.
After discussion, the board approved a motion (Mrs. Bolan) to hold at least one public workshop in July to present options, hear parents and staff, and evaluate safety and operational impacts before pursuing any policy change.
What’s next: Administration will organize the workshop and provide more detailed cost, safety and implementation scenarios; bus contractors and municipal partners will be asked to join the discussions.
