Wappinger board approves paving contract for town parks, plans further review of Schlot House work

Councilman Cassella moved the resolution and Councilman Phillips seconded it; the motion passed on the board’s recorded voice vote.
Officials said the Schlot House Park work includes a larger parking expansion, new drainage and conduit for future lighting that will require additional deliberation. The board noted that a contractor’s estimate for Schlot House arrived the night of the meeting and agreed to bring a separate resolution at the next meeting to consider that scope and potential in‑house work that could reduce costs. Members emphasized attention to drainage and permeability so pavement does not increase runoff.
The board also discussed needed repairs to stairs and accessibility improvements at park sites; members urged that stair replacement or conversion to a graded ramp be prioritized alongside paving, and asked staff to include grading and drainage plans in follow‑up documents.
The resolution directs staff to finalize contracts and return to the board with any scope adjustments or cost clarifications needed for Schlot House Park before committing town funds for that portion of the work. The board then recessed into an executive session later in the meeting to address legal questions related to other agenda items.
