Normandy Park arts commission finalizes Music in the Park poster and weighs stage and tent rentals

The Normandy Park Arts Commission spent the bulk of its meeting reviewing promotional materials and logistics for the spring Music in the Park series, approving poster edits and discussing how to secure stages and tents if vendors’ schedules are uncertain.

Staff reported that posters for the series will be revised to match the City of Normandy Park logo and to include a QR code; a graphic-designing commissioner said she used last year’s art as a placeholder and will adjust copy and imagery. “I kinda like the drummer,” one committee member said while others said the saxophone or a guitar cat raised unintended genre associations.

On logistics, commissioners discussed vendor contracts and contingencies. A commissioner estimated that a tent-and-stage package could cost “about $4,000,” and another suggested paying a modest nonrefundable deposit (example discussed: $500) to hold dates if the city must secure equipment before final venue confirmation. Commissioners discussed minimum stage dimensions — a 12-by-16-foot stage was described as a minimum, with 20-by-20 feet considered if space and budget allow — and whether to use modular staging or group 10-by-10 canopies as a fallback.

Staff also told the commission the farmers market will move from Town Center to Mar Vista Park and is expected to operate roughly noon to 5 p.m. on regular market days and remain open until about 7 p.m. on Music in the Park nights so vendors can stay for the concerts.

The commission agreed to finalize poster edits, confirm artist contract language (some contracts list Mar Vista Park or City Hall Park as alternate venues) and follow up with vendors about deposits and staging needs. Staff said she will circulate finalized copy and contact contracted artists to lock in logistics before public distribution of materials.
