Council reviews draft to add seventh public member to city-county building board

Council members on June 10 reviewed a draft ordinance to amend the composition and appointment process for the Fond du Lac City-County Building Board.
Presenter John said the board, created in the 1980s to maintain the city-county building, currently has six members and adding a seventh public member would avoid tie votes. “So in conversations with the county, we believe that specifying a public member for this board would be helpful,” John said. Under the draft, applicants would submit applications and the remaining board members would appoint the new member.
Council member Zimmerman said the seventh member is needed because the board is currently in a stalemate on votes and praised the proposed application process. Council members also asked about references in the draft to the “safety building,” noting functions and occupant changes since the original ordinance; John agreed that language could be updated.
The item was presented for input; staff will incorporate feedback and bring a revised ordinance back to the council for further consideration.
