Emergency management briefs court on grants, trainings and interstate response

Joey Scott, representing the county’s emergency management office, told the Fiscal Court on June 9 that staff submitted a BRIC‑related link and other grant materials and participated in multiple coordination meetings and trainings in May.
Scott said the county responded to five emergencies during the month and described a non‑injury crash involving an Upton Fire Department vehicle on I‑65 as a reminder to motorists to yield and move over for emergency responders. "Under KRS 189.30 is a move over law. Please when you see emergency vehicle try to move over as safely as possible," Scott said, urging drivers to protect responders.
He also described recent training (active‑shooter response, distribution plan exercises, spill drills, autism‑first‑responder training and OSHA heat‑rule coursework) and encouraged residents to sign up for the county’s emergency notification system to receive storm and other urgent alerts.
The court received the report; no formal action was taken at the meeting.
