Council approves police task force participation and renews ALS agreement with HonorHealth

The Florence Town Council on June 2 approved two public-safety agreements: an intergovernmental agreement to allow town officers to participate in Pinal County’s regional vehicle crimes/traffic task force, and an updated advanced life-support (ALS) base-hospital agreement with HonorHealth to provide online medical direction and quality management for the Florence Fire Department.

Chief Matt Thomas described the task force agreement as a regional partnership that allows trained town investigators to take part in complex accident and vehicle-crime responses and to receive task-force support when available. “Much like the SWAT team, for the price of a body we get the response of a whole team,” Thomas said, explaining the mutual-aid structure.

Chief Snyder presented the HonorHealth base-hospital agreement. Snyder said the updated agreement closely mirrors the department’s prior arrangement with Mount Vista as the base hospital and that HonorHealth will provide ALS and BLS medical oversight, training and online medical control required by Arizona Department of Health Services rules. Town and HonorHealth legal teams revised language and finalized the agreement for council approval.

Why it matters: The two agreements expand the town’s capacity to handle complex vehicle-crime investigations and ensure continued medical oversight for prehospital advanced-life-support services.

What’s next: The mayor was authorized to execute the agreements, and staff will continue coordination with county task force leadership and HonorHealth clinical staff.
