Normandy Park arts commissioners add new artist member and finalize summer events

Amy Lloyd, Normandy Park parks and recreation manager, opened the meeting by announcing several summer events and welcoming two new members to the Arts Commission.
Tammy Hardy, newly seated as the commission's artist commissioner, said she has lived in Normandy Park for more than 30 years and represents Artists United of South King County. "I love Normandy Park," Hardy said, describing her work in acrylic painting and her club's interest in involving students and the community in arts programming.
Commissioners approved plans to proceed with the summer concert series, with Music in the Park scheduled to begin July 12, and discussed logistics including band contracts and a rented band shell. Lloyd said most bands have signed contracts and that she placed a 50% deposit on the rental for two shows to hold dates pending any public-health restrictions.
Tammy Hardy offered that her art club could host a tented exhibition area at a Music in the Park event, providing tents and equipment and, if allowed, selling members' work. "We would provide everything," Hardy said, adding club members could staff the booth. Commissioners discussed placement to avoid interference with the stage and suggested vendor liability forms as a customary step.
Staff also confirmed a sequence of July Fourth week family events: a Betsy Ross program and cake, a Pioneer Kids story time, an eagle craft and bicycle decorating leading into the parade and activities at The Cove. Lloyd described a public fireworks display planned on a barge off the shore on July 3 and urged attendees to plan for busy conditions.
On outreach and promotion, commissioners agreed to an initial order of 600 postcards to distribute at the parade and related events and assigned volunteers to seven poster-distribution zones, including Trader Joe's, the town center and areas south toward Des Moines and Wesley Homes.
The meeting closed with reminders about an upcoming sound-bath event and the start of Music in the Park. The commission adjourned after a motion and voice vote.
