Conservation commission notes early cyanobacteria blooms on Lake Kanasatka, plans public education

Cornelia Schneider told the commission that the first cyanobacteria blooms have been observed on Lake Kanasatka. The Cyanobacteria Committee has scheduled an education talk for July to share new science-based health information with residents.
Commission members also reported that LRPC’s compost-tumbler education event on May 21 distributed tumblers to 32 Moultonborough families. The commission plans to present a concept for pollinator garden education plots at the Transfer Station to the Select Board.
The commission emphasized public education as a priority for responding to cyanobacteria without implying policy changes; no new regulations or expenditures were adopted at the June 1 meeting.
