Romero Carrera presented a short history: the wall, originally constructed by a high-school ad class, has been a campus landmark for nearly four decades. The district convened an internal leadership group, presented the condition to facilities and bond-oversight committees, shared a short video with the community, and posted a survey (May 11–27) that drew 92 responses. Survey themes favored rebuilding or restoring the wall and repurposing original bricks into a memorial; other responses suggested relocating the landmark or improving electronic signage pending city rules.
Carrera said architects will be engaged to provide cost estimates for options that prioritize student safety, preserve school identity, and ensure long-term durability. Trustees discussed involving students in design work but noted liability concerns while the structure remains fragile. The district plans to present options and cost estimates to the board and seek a vendor, with safety as the primary factor.
No procurement or contract award was made at the workshop; next steps are further design/estimate work and community engagement on feasible options.
