Granby commission seeks technical report on town energy projects; Broadleaf Solar presentation noted

At the June 9 meeting of the Town of Granby Conservation Commission, commissioners reviewed past work on energy conservation and discussed next steps for renewables on town property.

Kara Marshall summarized the project history for attendees. Commissioner David Desiderato asked whether the technical assessment of the Town Hall complex was available; the commission assigned Desiderato to request that report from the town manager. Marshall also agreed to follow up on the status of no-cost weatherization projects previously discussed.

Marshall reported she attended a June 17 Board of Selectmen meeting where, she said, a representative of Broadleaf Solar presented plans that would cut trees along Salmon Brook Street and tunnel under Salmon Brook at the rail trail; according to Marshall, the representative did not provide details about how decommissioning would be handled. Commissioners were invited to review application materials on Broadleaf Solar’s website and to bring questions or comments to the July meeting; the commission may formulate questions or comments to send to the town if appropriate.

Why it matters: technical assessments and answers about decommissioning, tree removal and infrastructure impacts are central to evaluating solar proposals near town property and trails. The commission did not take a formal position at this meeting.

Next steps: Desiderato will request the technical assessment from the town manager and commissioners will review Broadleaf Solar materials before the July meeting.
