Chilton County Schools superintendent reports early test-score gains as board approves agenda and personnel

Chilton County Schools — The superintendent told the Chilton County Schools board on Friday that the district has compiled about 80% of the data used to produce this year’s school report cards and reported early signs of progress in elementary reading scores, while the board approved routine agenda and personnel items.

The superintendent said the district expects English Learner (EL) test scores to arrive "to the 10th," that AAP growth figures are due June 26, and that ACT growth figures will arrive later in July. "We've been able to calculate graduation rate, CCR, chronic absenteeism, those things," the superintendent said, and added, "we're very appreciative of the job that our teachers have done." The superintendent also noted that second- and third-grade reading data "was really good this time." Each comment came during the superintendent's academic update.

On procedural business, the board approved the meeting agenda as presented after a motion and second. The board then approved personnel items labeled A through I and adopted the consent agenda, listed as items A through K. All were carried by voice vote; the transcript records no opposing votes or roll-call tallies for those actions.

The superintendent framed the update as a progress report rather than a final judgment on outcomes. "We're not where we want to be yet, but we are making progress every day," the superintendent said, thanking board members and staff for their support and resources.

The meeting also included the customary opening prayer led by Mr. Ellison and the Pledge of Allegiance. The board adjourned after concluding the agenda.

What’s next: the superintendent signaled more data to come in June and July and did not announce any immediate policy changes; the board took no substantive new actions beyond the approved personnel and consent items.
