Alton board announces new planner; town policy bars selectman from inspector job

The announcement said Armstrong currently serves as a senior planner for the city of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, and holds a master’s degree from Eastern Michigan University and a bachelor’s degree from the University of New England. The board said his experience and education formed the basis for the hire.
The board also briefed the public on its search for a building inspector and code enforcement officer. Selectman Drew Carter had applied for the position and was described by colleagues as “highly qualified,” but the board said town policy prevents an elected official from accepting town employment until two years after leaving service. As a result, the board withdrew Carter from consideration and is continuing to review other candidates.
The board said it hopes to have a decision on the inspector role soon and reiterated that the town’s public-participation policy and posting procedures are available on agendas and the town website. The meeting packet included the hire announcement and related materials.
