Staff updated the commission on several airport projects and grant activities. A previously approved "pig" installation has not been completed because of staff shortages; staff said it should be finished by the next meeting.
On marking and drainage, staff described plans for a roughly 40-by-40-foot yellow painted square with a drain in the middle and an accompanying stencil to mark the area around the drain.
On grants and pavement, staff and consultants reported that a grant application prepared with Kimley Horn is in final review and expected to be submitted by the city imminently for an FAA FY22 AIG fund source. Staff said that some grant funds roll over into a revolving queue and that the city is exploring segmenting pavement projects (alleyways between hangars and apron areas) to avoid the cost of a full runway rehaul. Staff cited an approximate figure of $7,000,000 for a complete runway rebuild and said that approach is not currently feasible; instead, the plan is to focus limited funds on targeted areas and to use existing runway asphalt as additional base where possible.
Staff also said they will provide an update at the next meeting on terminal-building parking improvements tied to another grant application.
