Sonia, from purchasing/finance, said the audit investment committee met on June 3 and unanimously recommended the local firm based on the selection criteria; she told the commission that fees were competitive and that Burton, McCumber & Longoria scored highest across reviewed categories. "Preliminary primary difference among the proposals was audit fees," Sonia said.
Commissioners discussed the importance of rotating audit firms to ensure fresh review and asked whether the selected firm had municipal and government experience; staff said the firm had worked for Hidalgo County and several school districts and that the committee was comfortable moving forward.
The commission approved the contract. The award begins the five‑year engagement; staff will finalize contract details and review the implementation plan with the audit investment committee.
