McAllen approves $3.36 million contract for Lindberg Avenue drainage improvements

The McAllen City Commission voted to award a $3,364,886.34 contract to Global Construction & Design of McAllen for the Lindberg Avenue and Sixth Street drainage improvement project.
Eduardo, a city public‑works staff member, told the commission the project will include approximately 500 linear feet of 15‑inch slotted drain, about 1,415 linear feet of 15‑inch storm pipe, removal and replacement of 2,135 feet of curb and gutter, and associated pavement, driveway and sidewalk work to improve stormwater capture and conveyance. "The scope of work focuses on storm water management," Eduardo said.
Staff and the city’s engineer, Meldon and Hunt, recommended the award to the lowest responsive bidder after due diligence. Commissioners asked whether the city considered vendor experience; staff said the engineer checked representative projects and sub‑contractors and felt comfortable proceeding. The contract carries a 90‑day completion timeline.
The motion to approve carried. The contract award moves the project forward toward construction and is intended to reduce localized flooding in the project area.
Next steps: staff will finalize contract documents and schedule pre‑construction coordination with the contractor and the engineering firm.
