The Marion County Planning & Zoning Commission on Jan. 26 recommended approval of a special-use permit for a 225-foot telecommunications monopole proposed by Blue Sky Towers 4 LLC.
Staff planner Sarah Wells told the commission the tower would occupy roughly 3,600 square feet of a 10‑acre A‑1 general agriculture parcel in the county’s southwest. The proposal includes an 8‑foot chain‑link security fence with three strands of barbed wire, FAA‑required medium‑intensity lighting (white by day, red by night) and no advertising signs. "Staff will be recommending approval as conditioned," Wells said.
Mary Solick, the applicant’s representative, said the project meets county setback requirements and that the nearest residence is about 725 feet from the structure — more than double the required separation. "We do meet all of your setback requirements," Solick said, noting only a single emailed objection from a neighbor.
Commissioner Andy Bonner moved to approve the special‑use permit "with staff findings and recommendations." The motion received a second and passed by unanimous voice vote.
The commission’s recommendation is advisory; the Board of County Commissioners will review the case at a subsequent hearing. The planning staff’s report lists specific conditions of approval, which the commission incorporated into its recommendation.
