City staff returned to the council April 22 with an early implementation update on the Tennyson Tennis & Swim Center fee study. The new membership model went into effect Jan. 1; staff reported current memberships of about 2,525 (down from 3,332 before implementation), 110 new members, 200 cancellations and an early trend of roughly 10% higher monthly membership revenue.
Staff said the waitlist has been reduced through outreach and verification (from about 4,547 to roughly 3,200 after removing duplicates and contacting older entries). Capital priorities include more than $1,000,000 in required electrical and galvanized water‑line replacements. The consultant and staff recommended adding a senior guest fee ($10 weekdays, $13 weekends) and a reduced sanctioned‑league visiting player fee ($10 weekdays, $13 weekends) to align guest charges with peer facilities and support league use.
Council asked detailed questions about how guest fees are collected by leagues (host teams typically pay or pass costs to captains), membership caps and turnover, waitlist procedures (30‑day response window when offered a spot), and planned fitness‑area upgrades. Council approved staff’s recommendations and the related fee schedule amendment by a 5–0 vote. Staff will continue monthly monitoring and outreach to members.
