Arts commission approves Music in the Park 2026 lineup

The Normandy Park Arts Commission voted to approve the lineup and contracts for Music in the Park 2026 after the booking lead reported that all acts have returned contracts.

The commission’s booking lead, identified in the meeting as a commission member, told colleagues “we are booked,” and reviewed a diverse lineup that includes Afro‑Cuban group Sonando, Americana act Old Coast, Brazilian folk ensemble Foliada, Jawian/Okela Street Band, songwriter Leroy Bell, the reunited Heats, the Susan Pascal quartet and a Pete Chrisley big band. Commissioners said the mix reflects recent community survey feedback that callers wanted both familiar and diverse performers.

Why it matters: The approved bookings let staff move forward on contracts, stage logistics and promotions ahead of the summer series. Commissioners discussed practical needs — access to power, awnings or sun protection, seating and whether to hire a photographer — and identified outlets for marketing including the Seattle Folklore Society newsletter and the local Normandy Park magazine.

The commission approved the booking motion by voice vote. Commissioners also noted next steps: finalize site logistics (power and seating), confirm any required permits or vendor contracts, and prepare promotional postcards and posters.

Commissioners emphasized protecting the Music series budget while reallocating smaller line items elsewhere in the commission’s 2026 plan. The commission did not identify any outstanding legal or financial objections to the contracts during the meeting.

The commission will next consider marketing materials and volunteer support for the concerts at an upcoming meeting.
