Council OKs 30-minute fireworks finale, authorizes fire chief to run Celebrate America event

The Everman City Council voted June 9 to approve Resolution 2026-06-01 authorizing a fireworks display as part of the City’s Celebrate America festival. Councilmember Judy made the motion and Councilmember Susan seconded; a roll call showed all present voting in favor.

Staff and the fire department described the event schedule: festival activities will begin in mid-afternoon and the musical program will culminate with a roughly 30-minute fireworks finale beginning about 10:30 p.m. Fire department staff said shifting the event later in the evening aims to increase attendance and cooler conditions for attendees.

The fire department presenter also announced the headline musical act, the David Whiteitman Band, and said the City finalized a partnership with the restaurant On the Patio to provide alcoholic beverages under event controls; food will be prepared off-site and brought to the event.

The resolution delegates authority to the fire chief to take actions necessary to facilitate the display and manage public safety around the fireworks. Staff said sound checks are scheduled to begin as early as noon on event day and that the fireworks show will be staged as a finale after the band’s performance.

The council did not discuss permit particulars or vendor contracts in detail at the meeting; staff said the fire chief will handle necessary operational steps and will report back to council if any material changes arise.

Outcome: Resolution 2026-06-01 was approved by unanimous roll call vote; staff will coordinate logistics with the fire chief, vendors and public-safety partners.
