Commission advances trail easement talks and OKs Farmers Market pilot at Mar Vista Park

The Parks Commission reviewed progress on a trail easement and heard details of a pilot Farmers Market relocation to Mar Vista Park.
Staff said they met with the Skartlands property owner about formally opening a cut-through that would create a pedestrian connection between 12th and 16th avenues; staff will draft easement paperwork and expects to bring the proposal to the City Council for adoption. "We're gonna draft up some paperwork and bring it back to them to open an easement there," the staff member said, describing the parcel as a top trail-opening priority.
Separately, the commission discussed a council-approved memorandum of understanding that allows the Farmers Market to pilot Sundays at Mar Vista Park beginning April 26 and running through mid-August. Staff said the market would likely occupy the grass area (not the parking lot) to reduce footprint conflicts and operational costs (restroom needs, honey buckets) compared with town-center locations. A staff person added that city staff will likely provide on-site support for event operations.
The commission did not take a formal vote on the easement during the meeting; staff will return with legal paperwork for council consideration.
