Recreation Commission approves fall field requests, mandates updated insurance for six groups

The Woodbridge Recreation Commission approved a slate of fall and seasonal field-use requests from local leagues and nonprofit groups and added a condition requiring six groups to provide updated certificates of insurance before they may use town fields.

John, the recreation staff member who presented the calendar of field requests, listed recurring users including Woodbridge Soccer, Woodbridge Yellow Jackets, Bethwood (Acorn Hill Fields), Everson Soccer, Youth Lacrosse, JCC Softball, Milford Amigos, Trinity Soccer, Amity High School and Chapel Haven. John said Everson donated two soccer goals — each valued at about $1,800 — to the department, a contribution he described as helpful to the budget.

Commissioners moved to approve the field requests but amended the motion to require updated certificates of insurance prior to field use for six groups whose policies were expired or about to expire (Everson, Woodbridge Soccer, Amity Pop Warner Cheerleading, JCC, Amity High School and Chapel Haven). Chair and staff confirmed that approval is conditional: teams granted dates in the schedule will not be permitted on fields until certificates are current.

The commission approved the amended motion. Staff noted several user groups already coordinate schedules (soccer and lacrosse presidents reached compromises) to avoid conflicts and said maintenance fees and supplies (athletic paint, etc.) are charged where applicable.
