A staff member presented the FY 26–27 federal Title grant applications and asked the finance and facilities committee to recommend them to the full school board for inclusion on the consent agenda.
The applications, the presenter said, “collectively represent approximately 5.46 million in federal funding that supports student achievement, teacher effectiveness, school improvement, multilingual learners, and student support services across Lynchburg City Schools.” The largest single allocation is Title I — about $4.5 million — to support academic interventions, instructional supports and family engagement in the district’s highest‑need schools. The packet also includes Title II (professional development and instructional coaching), Title III (support for English learners) and Title IV (well‑rounded education, student wellness and school safety). Title I Part D funds for neglected, delinquent or at‑risk students are included as well.
Committee members asked whether the materials in front of them represented all grant requests and whether any local match would be required. Staff confirmed the applications cover the listed grants and stated that local matches, where present, have already been accounted for and would not create an additional burden on the school system.
A committee member moved to approve forwarding the applications to the school board; another member seconded the motion and the committee agreed to recommend the package. Staff had requested that the item be placed on the school board consent agenda that evening.
The committee’s recommendation will be transmitted to the school board for formal consideration during the board’s consent agenda.
