Disease monitoring and event preparedness were also discussed. Fong briefed the board on recent hantavirus cases tied to a cruise-ship outbreak and on an international Ebola outbreak, saying risk to the U.S. remains low but that state and local monitoring protocols are active. She described coordination between KPhD and the Washington State Department of Health ahead of large World Cup fan events and said district preparedness exercises and expanded surveillance are underway.
Board follow-up and next steps: Fong said district leadership will analyze program impacts and bring findings into the 2027 budget process. The board left no formal direction on program reductions at the meeting.
