Council approves fees and renames restored chapel to Oldtown Temecula Chapel

The council voted June 9 to reopen a renovated chapel near Sam Hicks Monument Park and the Temecula Valley Museum under the new name "Oldtown Temecula Chapel," and to adopt a fee schedule for reservations and add-on services.
Staff said the interior renovation restored the facility for small private ceremonies, with an inside capacity of about 50 to 75 people. The kitchen has been updated as a caterer's kitchen and the patio will be available as an add-on. To accommodate wedding planning timelines, staff recommended permitting reservations up to 12 months in advance; Saturday rentals will not be allowed earlier than 2 p.m. because the adjacent farmers market uses the area in the morning.
The proposed fee schedule separates resident and non-resident rates, includes a refundable security deposit and allows additional hourly rental up to an eight-hour maximum. Councilmember Ron announced a conflict of interest on the item and recused himself; the item passed with four members voting in favor and one recusal.
Erica Russo, director of community services, said the facility is intended for "a very small private ceremonies" and emphasized the city's desire to make an affordable local venue available for weddings and memorial services.
The council's action authorizes the facility reopening, adopts the fee schedule and approves the facility name change to better anchor it to Oldtown Temecula.
