On June 9 the Madison Common Council adopted a resolution recognizing June 2026 as Pride Month in the city (Legistar 93438). Alder Duncan read the resolution citing the city’s history of LGBTQ+ protections and naming local organizations that support queer communities. Two pediatricians from Path Clinic, Dr. Brittany Allen and Dr. Jennifer Ree, accepted the resolution and described the clinic’s experience caring for transgender and gender‑diverse youth. They said care changed substantially after January 2026, with many families facing barriers and uncertainty; they urged the council and the community to continue supporting medically appropriate care and access.
Dr. Allen and Dr. Ree stressed that pediatric transgender care is grounded in decades of clinical practice and a growing body of evidence. "We know that this care, when provided thoughtfully and with appropriate support, is safe, effective and medically necessary for many young people," Dr. Allen said. They described families’ increased fear and disruption following recent policy changes and highlighted community advocacy and mutual support efforts.
The council recorded the resolution as moved by Alder Duncan and seconded by Alder Field; the vote was recorded as unanimous.
