Pflugerville ISD board debuts monthly administration report, approves consent agenda, easement and personnel

Pflugerville ISD trustees on July 18 approved a slate of routine actions and formally launched a new monthly "administration report" the district will post online before board meetings, Superintendent Dr. Shepherd said.

"Tonight is the night we debut the administration report," Dr. Shepherd told the board as she explained that the document will list items found on the agenda and consent packet, include narrative, charts and be ADA-compliant and translatable so the public can read materials in advance. She said the report is intended to streamline meetings by letting trustees raise questions about consent-agenda items earlier.

The report walks through curriculum, finances and operations. Dr. Shepherd highlighted curriculum planning for the coming school year and said the district prepared roughly 2,000 teachers with more than 300 summer sessions. She also cited finance items that appear in the packet, including third-quarter investment reports and purchases over $50,000. On operations she noted custodial teams have cleaned approximately 2,500,000 square feet districtwide over the summer, an amount the administration equated roughly to the area of about 1,250 homes.

After the presentation, the board moved quickly through routine business. Trustee Mayer moved and Trustee Torres seconded approval of the consent agenda, which passed 6-0. Trustee Jost spoke in favor of Item 4, a contract for Propio language services, praising the district's welcome center and newcomer program and noting the services support hundreds of students and families: "Mister Mojica and his entire department work around the clock to ensure that all of the newcomers ... have access to translation services," Jost said.

The board then considered a resolution granting a wastewater easement to Lakeside Municipal Utility District No. 5. A presenter identified as Craig summarized the packet and answered questions; Trustee Mayer moved approval, Trustee Horace seconded, and the motion carried.

Trustees also endorsed a candidate for the Texas Association of School Boards (TASB) board of directors, approving the board's endorsement by voice vote. The board discussed delegate representation for the TASB/TASA delegate assembly in late September and voted to name Trustee Mayer as delegate and Trustee Torres as alternate.

After a brief closed session on personnel and land matters, the board returned to open session and approved staff recommendations to fill assistant superintendent positions and the executive director of transportation. The superintendent introduced the appointees in public remarks and welcomed them to the district. Trustees approved the personnel items by unanimous vote.

The meeting adjourned after the business was completed. The administration report will be posted publicly before the next regularly scheduled board meeting, Dr. Shepherd said.
