Construction update: playgrounds largely complete; HVAC and other projects face some delays
Summary
Pflugerville ISD reported playgrounds largely finished and a slate of HVAC and renovation projects underway. Equipment lead times will delay some work at Westview Middle and Pflugerville High into fall; the CTE Center permitting and Old Albertsons renovation are moving forward, and board members asked for a workshop on proposed teacher housing policy.
Mr. Pruitt updated the board on construction and bond projects June 20, reporting that playground phase 1 is 100% complete and phase 2 is nearly complete, with Palmer Lane and Pflugerville Elementary expected to finish by August. Demolition for phase 3 will begin at Highland Park and Murchison, part of an 11-site effort with completion planned by March 2025.
Pruitt said there are 15 HVAC projects this summer (six funded by the 2018 bond and nine by the 2022 bond). He warned that equipment delays will prevent finishing Westview Middle School over the summer and could push some Pflugerville High work into mid-July, though staff still expects projects to be ready for the start of school with diligent contractor coordination.
Other items: Marquise sites are about 95% complete pending logos; Pace electrical upgrades are slated to finish by late July; fire-alarm upgrades are starting at Connolly, Pace and the old transportation bus barn; the CTE Center is working through permit reviews with Travis County and the City of Austin; and the Old Albertsons building is being renovated to house technology, curriculum and professional development space with a construction manager-at-risk procurement underway.
Pruitt said district leaders are taking a step back on workforce (teacher) housing to examine policy, legal requirements and the district's mission before proceeding and that geotechnical reports are forthcoming. Trustees requested a workshop for a deeper workforce-housing discussion and asked staff to keep principals informed about HVAC scheduling.
Board members approved related consent items during the meeting.
