University Park honors officers after rapid response to theft attempt

Chief Starks described the timeline: "within 4 minutes, we had five people on scene, and we caught them in the act." He said video and coordination with the Will County State's Attorney's Office produced felony theft charges and arrests; one arrestee reportedly had methamphetamine on his person and multiple warrants in other counties.
Trustees praised the effort and singled out Village Manager Scott for blocking the suspects’ exit with her vehicle and preserving evidence. The board moved to present certificates of appreciation to the officers; the recognition item drew applause and several trustees used their remarks to highlight improved patrol response times in recent incidents.
No disciplinary or policy actions were proposed; the recognition was presented as acknowledgement of the officers’ work in protecting the community.
