The Jenkintown School District board voted to adopt the district’s 2026–27 final general fund budget and related tax resolutions during its June meeting. The budget presented shows approximately $21.5 million in projected revenues and roughly $21.4 million in expenditures, producing a modest projected surplus.
Treasurer Lou summarized the district’s financial position, reporting a general fund balance near $3.0 million and a capital projects fund balance noted in the packet. The board was also presented with the cafeteria program’s year‑to‑date net profit of about $22,000, up from roughly $19,000 the prior year.
The budget includes a 3.5% real‑estate tax increase — the maximum permitted under the Act 1 index without voter approval — and the board approved a homestead/farmstead exclusion resolution that outlines eligibility and application timing for qualifying property owners. Board members clarified that homeowners must apply for the homestead exclusion and noted application timelines included in the materials.
Board members moved and approved the consent agenda covering items 4.1–4.17, which included payment of bills, the tax collector’s report, treasurer’s reports, student activity and cafeteria reports, and authorization to pay bills due over the summer months. The motion carried by voice vote.
The board will present the final adopted tax information on the district’s annual tax bill and proceed with administrative steps to publish required notices and post the adopted budget documents.
