Broken Bow council approves Eagle Crest 2nd Subdivision plans, confirms appointments

Broken Bow — The Broken Bow City Council on Nov. 14 approved final plans and specifications for the Eagle Crest 2nd Subdivision and authorized staff to advertise for bids, the council recorded in minutes of a meeting at the Broken Bow Municipal Auditorium.
The motions to approve the subdivision plans and to authorize advertising for bids passed on unanimous roll-call votes. JEO representative Ryan Kavan provided an overview of the project’s scope and cost after the council approved the plans. When Keith Ellis of the CEDC asked about timing, Kavan said the project is expected to be completed in the fall of 2024 and that bids would be issued the week after Thanksgiving.
The council also approved a string of appointments and administrative items. It reappointed Steven Parr of JEO as City Street Superintendent and adopted Resolution 2023-17, authorizing the mayor to sign the year-end certification for the Street Superintendent. The council appointed JEO Consulting Group as the City Engineer and named Ryan Wistisen and Kelly Fortado to the Broken Bow Park Board; all motions passed unanimously on roll-call votes.
The council moved to appoint Luke Wassom to the West Ward city council seat; the motion passed unanimously. Mayor Rod Sonnichsen declared the council adjourned sine die at 6:22 p.m., City Attorney Jason White administered the oath of office to Wassom, and the council reconvened with Wassom seated. Mayor Sonnichsen used the mayoral comments to welcome Wassom and noted city offices would close early on Nov. 17.
The meeting began with routine business and approval of the consent agenda, which included minutes from Oct. 24, 2023, the Bills to Date and the Broken Bow Volunteer Fire Department roster. The bills listed in the minutes total $195,651.29 and include payments and invoices for municipal utilities, public-safety supplies and a $20,000 council chamber remodel invoice to Custer County Construction Inc.
The council adjourned at 6:26 p.m.
