Superintendent details summer construction, weatherization and new shade structures across district sites

At the June 9 meeting, the district Superintendent presented an illustrated update on summer facilities work across Santa Cruz Valley Unified School District No. 35.
The Superintendent said she prepared an infographic showing progress at several sites. She highlighted a new pickup lane where concrete is scheduled to be poured next week and said a sidewalk will be installed beneath the lane. She described weatherization work at Calabasas — including new fencing, extensive exterior changes and sidewalk demolition to fix drainage and grading problems — and said those repairs have markedly changed the building’s appearance.
The presentation also covered shade-structure installation at the aquatic center, which required a temporary pool closure for the work, and a planned shade structure over the Calabasas athletic field to address a lack of shade. The Superintendent noted districtwide deep-cleaning efforts, ongoing classroom moves, and demolition of the TLA office building; staff reported that affected teams have relocated and that completion photos will be provided at a future meeting.
The Superintendent said she will provide further project photos and updates at the next board meeting. No project budgets or contractor names were disclosed during the presentation.
